Bob,
Back when I spent a fair bit of time working with Stephen Haussmann (of 
"film canister shell" fame), I taught him how to master 3/8" crossettes.  
On the next trip to Florida, he brought a custom-made cruciform mold for 
6mm crossettes.  They not only worked, they were reliable.
