Msmonkey,
Using the burlap as spiking?
If the paste keeps the burlap from pulling loose from the ends, and
good paste job on the "under the front seat" bags.
Sounds a little like Maltese spiking.
I've spiked 3, 3" canisters made from some old wrapping paper tubes,
and even had some tubes that were just shy of sliding inside for end
cap sup****t.
Used that ribbon that can be "curled" with a pair of scissors to spike
and reg. craft for the finish.
Here's one I experimented on with offset spiking.

I tried this 'cause using string would make it fit too tight in the
tube.
It's also close to 2-3/4 which is the size of the tube I have for
shooting 2-1/2 plastic balls.
Haven't shot any yet, but confidence is high.
How's the friend's hand doing, and how's he adjusting?
Tell him there's some that's concerned.
Dan
