Re: Homemade quickmatch pipes

Kate,
I'm the same way. I think about all the really cool projects I'd like to
do,
then settle for what's feasable at the time. A quickmatch machine would be

nice, definitely (it's OK to dream LOL). For me, at this point in time, I
make leaders individually because I don't need that many. I'm starting to
find the painter's masking paper to work really well. Only problem is hot
glue won't stick very well to the outer wax coat you end-up with on the
pipes, but that's easilly overcome. And I agree about the plastic straws.
Messy. They work, but I'd rather stick with paper in some form or another.

Scott

The problem with plastic drinking straws is that they melt and make a
mess.

Are there any paper drinking straws anymore?

I make match (when I make it - see Scott H's first line or two about
that) with painters masking paper.

I always think of these neat projects at the beginning of the season
when I don't have time to tinker around. However, a quick match
machine would be a great invention. It should be easier to build than
a Visco machine - any reasonably handy person with four or ten
thousand dollars worth of shop equipment should be able to build it.
There was a thread about this a good while back - the hemming tool
(??) for sewing that automagically forms the hem of a garment by
forcing the cloth into a cone and then a flat tube seems like a
starting point. Feed the paper and the black match through the cone,
press and seal...  Sure... I bet it would be that easy! ;-}
