I know, making your own quickmatch is a pain in the ass. Pipes, good
blackmatch, assembly... The pipes have always been my biggest pain in the
ass - just so time consuming to roll hundreds.. So today I was in the
paint
aisle at Lowes, and remembered someone (Ted?) telling me to try the
prepared
kraft masking paper. It's got adhesive on one side, and a wax coating on
about half of the reverse side. 3.75" wide, it's perfect to roll onto a
3/8"
dowel, in a slight spiral. The only problem is that when you roll it, the
adhesive side is trying to stick to the waxed side, so it wants to unroll
at
the end. Little piece of scotch tape, pull it off the dowel, flatten it,
and
it stays great. And, now it's got an outer wax coat. Presto! a nice pipe,
easy to push the match thru...
I made a few 36" and 48" leaders tonite to test, and they were awesome! 3
pieces of blackmatch inside, each made with 4 strands of fine crochet
thread
run thru a slurry. Very energetic - almost like commercial... And you can
fold it flat in a bundle, very durable. Still time consuming to make, but
to
me worth it.
Anyone else tried making pipes this way? Someday, we all may be forced to
"DIY". I want to get started early... <g>
