I have been practicing making the best whistle burst and my whistle is
pretty darn fast and good for 1.5 to 2.5 inch shells. Some people seem
to have different experiences lighting whistle in the open. I have
read people say it goes woosh like black powder or makes a scratching
sizzle sound. My experience is that it is highly energetic and makes a
thump like flash only less bright. Theres no poof/scratch or woosh, In
my opinion its on par with some low medium to slower flash mixes used
as burst in terms of open air burn rate and lower need for
confinement. Way better than the fastest bp. It acts as flash in a
salute just w/o the bright metal flash. Its not quite as fast as the
standard or more energetic flash mixtures . I don't know, there are
not many posts about it in salutes, but i like the sound, it just
lacks the bright flash that we all love. Here is a video, its not my
salute nor would I set one off in the street like this, but this is
70/30 pp sb whistle loose in a large cardboard salute. I emailed the
guy to see what he used, basically a large M-80 w/o the bright flash,
they do make a small white flash. Indeed flash makes a better salute
for an audience, so im not saying use whistle instead of flash!!!!
Just experimenting like my bp substitute tests. Flash and whistle act
very simular, salute flash is a tad faster and a lot brighter than
whistle which makes it a better option for a straight salute shell,
but whistle should never woosh like bp if made for burst in small
shells.
