Instead of setting the max to 95% - you might try pre-heating the for
your dimmer check. IE set all dimmers at 5 to 10 percent before you
start your dimmer check. This warms the filament and reduces
failure. Alternatively, you can try bringing up the lamp in a three
count instead of slamming it to full.
Re dark catwalks and maglites - have you tried one of the led
headlights? I found a wonderful one at lowe's. It fits on my head,
has a white and red LED, and I can focus it where I am looking. I've
fallen in love with the thing.
