This is the med pre-focus base version, yes?  If so, I had people
install lamps for me not respecting the size of the flanges and would
twist the bulb envelope right around the socket and cause premature
failure. Also, without knowing that you must push down first before
you twist can cause the same sort of failure.  The filament looked
good, but the lamp was dead.  It does help to periodically use some
emery cloth on the center contact to scrub off some of the carbon
trail.  Other than that and the usual precautions against touching the
bulb envelope on installation I've never experienced ongoing problems
with strand products (other than that they are generally annoying).
