I saw that site while looking for the particular style of lamp described
in the OP, but they didn't seem to have anything that resembled what was
described. Now that I look at it again, I see a box marked "EEFL" for
"External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp." This by far looks like the best
match
for what is described, and they have actual product pics for this one too.
Only problem is, they're also quite a bit longer than 5 inches.
