At least the nomial mains voltage, frequency and style of connectors
is uniform across the 50 states.  Are uniform standards practiced across
all the EU states yet?

Requiring a licensed electrician seems like a rip-off to me, also.
But consider what happens if some color-blind stage hand
swaps the wrong two camlock connetors. (Or even connects
the proper ones in the wrong sequence, etc.)   Both equipment
and people get fried.

I had a situation with a TV remote truck last weekend where
a dodgy ground differential kept causing a very sophisticated
Grass Valley/Thompson triax digital broadcast camera chain
to power-down at random.

Finally traced it to a monitor attached to the camera head
which was being powered from a mains outlet near the
camera head.
