I was working at the 2005 MTV Awards in Lisbon where it was used for the
Gorillaz cartoon characters to appear 'live' on stage. Viewed from the
right angle it was *very* effective. (It looked fantastic from the floor,
wasn't quite so good for the members of the live audience who were high
enough to see the projection screen on the stage floor.)

There's a video snippet of that performance on the same site:

Around the same time Gorillaz were playing a short spell in the Manchester
Opera House, I wasn't there but I gather the main performance was their
conventional (but very clever and effective) shadowplay while the Pepper's
Ghost malarky was used to make the characters appear to heckle from one of
the boxes. (Think Waldorf & Statler in the Muppet Show.)

Can't really see that. For one thing, despite the hype its only a 2d
image
so why bother, better a nice big conventional monitor really, like a
plasma
screen. For another, its still Pepper's Ghost with all its drawbacks -
the
viewing angle is somewhat limited and the ambient lighting has to be just
right - not ideal for a court room to say the least.
