The blight of the sacred drought - J. M. Synge

by rbethune@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Oct 13, 2007 at 06:03 AM

Hi! I'm doing Old Mahon in a production of Playboy of the Western
World and I would love to know what the heck the line, "And the blight
of the sacred drought upon myself and him" means. What in th world is
a "sacred drought?"

One respondent says it means the pubs are closed, but that doesn't
make any sense--the line is spoken in the pub!
