Yes, that's quite common. It's also not unknown for evening performances
of pantos to be either scheduled a little earlier than those for more
standard fare or supplanted by more matinees. A 10-performance schedule
for a panto might have 7pm evening performances Tuesday to Saturday
evenings, with 2.30pm matinees Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday,
and an 11am performance on the Saturday morning. During Christmas Week,
all kinds of convolutions and permutations are possible, depending on
the day of the week on which Christmas Day falls (there wouldn't be any
performance at all on Christmas Day - almost nothing in Britain is open
on Christmas Day, the entire country more or less shuts down - but there
would be additional matinees on other days. It's not unknown for shows
in the West End to schedule additional matinees during Christmas Week as
well, though again there'd be no performances at all on Christmas Day).
