Depends on how you define "weekend."  In the US, we include 
Friday, and the standard is Friday Evening, Saturday Matinee, 
Saturday Evening and a Sunday Matinee.  Some theatres have a 
Sunday evening performance as well.

But that depends on attendance.  At my particular theatre, we 
don't have a Saturday matinee on most shows because we can't fill 
the theatre four times in a weekend. It makes more economic sense 
to do three shows than four, since a fourth show doesn' raise the 
number of butts in seats.
