Working backwards: I never saw SHEBA, but I loved Kaye as MOLLY. Julie
should have kept her mouth shut and accepted that Tony. (I saw her
closing perfprmance.) I saw Tony Roberts as Mortimer in two versions of
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE: on Broadway with Jean Stapleton and Jonathan Frid,
and in stock with Sylvia Sidney and John Carradine. (Joanne Woodward and
Christopher Walken are doing it this summer.) I saw APS with many
replacements: Fritz Weaver, Carol Lynley. etc. My man Larry Blyden was
gone, alas. Ms. Stickney did not take a curtain call the night I saw
PIPPIN. (Betty Buckley had replaced Jill Clayburgh.) I also saw Hepburn
(with Chris Reeve) in A MATTER OF GRAVITY, and Loudon in the Alexis
Smith (and still the Lainie Kazan) revival of THE WOMEN. It was fun
seeing Mary Martin in a play. Oh to have seen her in JENNIE. (A cast
recording that has really grown on me in recent years.)
