Goodbye, Mr. Chips

| Finally caught the original GOODBYE, MR. CHIPS on TCM the other
night. One of those classics I never had gotten around to seeing
before. And, as it turns out, one of those classics that I don't
understand why it is considered such a classic. Not much of a story,
Donat seemed to be play-acting at being an old man, I never got the
sense of how he really affected his pupils' lives, and it didn't move
me. It was okay, but just.
It did get me curious about the remake, which I remember hearing about
as a kid, but never saw either. Googling it, I now realize it was a
musicalized version courtesy of Leslie Bricusse. Any thoughts about
the film and the score?
