Re: Looking for lesser known Gershwin verses

Can anyone enlighten me as to

> I Want to be a War Bride

has one verse and one chorus (with fewer words)

> I Got Rhythm

has one verse and one chorus; Ira reveals his dummy lyric for the tune
somewhere, but it's just one stanza

> Slap That Bass

has one verse and one chorus

> Fascinating Rhythm

at different times, or for different uses, Ira wrote two verses and
three choruses

> Embraceable You (seems I've heard something about "silk and laceable
> you" somewhere...)

You heard right (I know I mentioned this recently on some forum)!
There are two verses and three choruses - all of which were published
in the old Gershwin song book (the one with the Milton Glaser
illustrations)

> Love Walked In

has one verse and one chorus

> Nice Work if You Can Get It

has one verse and one chorus

> Ideas as to where I might find the alternate lyrics would be most
> appreciated!

The book you want is The Complete Lyrics of Ira Gershwin, edited by
Robert Kimball
