The new musical A Catered Affair is now the only Broadway production
currently running, to offer Thursday matinees.
As of July 3, the musical at the Walter Kerr Theatre is presenting
Thursday matinees at 3 PM instead of 8 PM Wednesday performances. The
TKTS discount ticket booth in Times Square is opening earlier than usual
on Thursdays, at 11 AM, to accommodate the show's new schedule.
As previously announced, A Catered Affair will play its final
performance at the Walter Kerr Theatre July 27. When it closes, the
musical will have played 27 previews and 116 regular performances.
A Catered Affair opened on Broadway following a much-extended run at San
Diego's Old Globe. The New York run received the Drama League's 2008
Best Musical Award, 12 Drama Desk Award nominations and three Tony
nominations.
The marriage-minded musical (based on the Paddy Chayefsky TV film and
movie) features a score by John Bucchino and direction by Tony winner
John Doyle; orchestrations were penned by Jonathan Tunick.
According to press notes, "Funny, heartbreaking and oh so human, A
Catered Affair reveals relation****ps strained to their limits when a
couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family
business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish
catered affair."
The musical is based on the Turner Entertainment motion picture
distributed by Warner Brothers and written by Gore Vidal, and the
original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky.
The musical's cast recording was recently released on the PS Classics
label.
