The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players (I could have the name wrong
-- Al Bergeret's group at Symphony Space) did an excellent staging of
the piece (not a word updated AFAIK) in 1990, and Encores did it last
year or was it the year before? The resemblance to a New World G&S was
quite obvious, and it was just as sly and cute and welcome as G&S.
It's one of the few shows from that era that doesn't seem to date --
all hail Mr. Kaufman.
