The thing with DMX is, it's a constant stream of data. The desk isn't
telling the dimmers a cue, it's constantly telling them the level of every
channel (usually all 512 of them) over and over, about 44 times per
second. It's when the datastream stops that weird things happen. Then
the dimmer
sits there and waits for the signal to come back. Running the same cue
again won't help, since nothing is changing. Bumping a fader or a button
should be all the change that's needed to let the dimmer know the signal
is good.
Are you running multiple dimmer packs, or just one? Does this happen on
all of them? Did you test cable using a twisted pair cable ran directly
into
the input of the dimmer? Is the last link terminated?
If it's just one dimmer pack that has the problem, try swapping the DMX
start channel with another pack and see if the problem follows. If it
does,
then the problem is with the signal. Otherwise, it will be the control
module in that particular pack. One last question, when you reset the
dimmers, are you factory defaulting the settings, or just power cycling
the system?
