NEW YORK -- George Clooney says he couldn't handle the pressure that
young Hollywood stars face today.
"If I were as famous as some of those kids who are on the magazines
right now at 21 years old, I'd be shooting crack under my eyeball," the
46-year-old actor says in an interview in the latest issue of
Entertainment Weekly magazine, on newsstands Monday.
I'm sure he is reflecting on the notoriety of young talent like L. Lohan
and the no-talent P. Hilton.
What a shame that fame is more im****tant to some than the careful
control over one's career, or growth as an artist.
But it's not just 2007, is it? Consider James Dean's promising career,
cut short because of his demise with drinking and driving. I have a
PSA, shot shortly before his tragic demise, where he preached that one
should not drive recklessly.
I guess that we artists forget history, especially the models of artists
of the past who just lacked the common sense to take care of one's
health and safety.
Not lecturing, indeed. I remember my youth as an actor, and I
induldged. Took risks. Played dangerously. It's a wonder that I
survived. Got focused on what matters.... my art.... and my family who
expect me to be behave well.
Best wishes and break a leg,
Bill
