I am that rare viewer who enjoys hearing both sides and watches both
Olbermann's and O'Reilly's programs on a regular basis.
Olbermann is already losing some viewers because of his strong
anti-Hillary
bias. But many loyal viewers remain and he is actually still adding
viewers
as one of the sole commentators on TV that echoes the rage of the growing
anti-GOP and anti-war chorus.
As for O'Reilly, some 'politically independent' TV critics including
Howard
Kurtz have been critical of his interview with Senator McCain. I mention
Kurtz because he has generally been either sup****tive, or neutral, about
The
O'Reilly Factor. But Kurtz thought that Bill's interview with McCain was
much softer than his interview with Hillary.
If I was to sit down with O'Reilly for a beer (or an Irish Whiskey), I
would
focus on one subject. I would say, "Someone out there is going to do a
study
of how balanced are your many segments featuring African Americans -
politicians, rappers, authors, professors, etc."
What they will probably conclude is that your program features an
increasing
number of negative stories featuring blacks. Many blacks (and whites)
already think you are racially insensitive at best, or downright bigoted
at
worst. If I were you, I would instruct your producers to strive for more
balance by including some positive stories.
You might even include a positive story about Latinos. Oh forget it. That
ain't going to happen <g>.
