Raw, Unflinching Documentary on Teen Aggression
“Rats & Bullies“, the cutting edge documentary on teen female bullying is
finishing post-production and available for distribution consideration.
This
raw, unflinching look at the suicide of Dawn-Marie Wesley an ordinary
14-year-old Canadian teenager probes the cause of her decline: bullying
and
female aggression.
School shootings, hazings and “bullycides” are all results of bullying.
Dawn-Marie Wesley named three of her tormentors, all girls, in her suicide
note. A precedent setting case followed in which the three girls were
prosecuted for the threats and intimidation they inflicted. Emphasis is
placed on the emotional aftermath and survivor’s grief. Dawn-Marie’s
13-year-old brother, D.J. was the one who found his sister hanging in her
bedroom from a dog leash.
A unique cultural aspect of the film is the influence of aboriginal
justice.
Since the victim and one of the accused was First Nations a sentencing
circle took place under the supervision of a provincial court judge.
The story is told within 120 minutes and spans North America from British
Columbia to Washington DC to California. It was filmed on digital and is
available in DVD, VHS or Beta SP formats. This film appeals to parents,
students, teachers, school administrators, social workers, legal
professionals and the general public. Topics include: female relational
aggression, gay-bashing, suicide, and healing.
Executive Producers, Roberta McMillan and Ray Buffer are also spearheading
pre-production on a dramatic feature film similar in tone to “Boys Don’t
Cry” and “Thirteen”, based on the Dawn-Marie Wesley story. R&R MEDIA
PRODUCTIONS has optioned the Wesley family’s story.
